Join us Friday, December 13th for the official opening night party at Malmaison to celebrate the launch of the world-renowned Fete des Lumières, as it makes its U.S. debut in Georgetown with public art and light installations!
Learn more about the festival, meet featured international artists, enjoy musical performances and video installations by their local counterparts, and have a drink or two to help us kick-off the festival at Malmaison, fine French concept in a former ice factory on the historic Georgetown waterfront in Washington, D.C.
VIDEO PROJECTION - MASRAE - Visual artist who fuses live, original and found footage with music to create a world of euphoric synesthesia. For this event he will take the architectural theme to the next level by bringing it to live with his unique audio/visual work. Combining video, images, art and photography this visual artist creates an experience like no other. Customizing each of his projection work to the space and theme of the event. Masrae@gmail.com
DIGITAL INSTALLATIONS - RIKI KIM - Visual artist working across various traditional and new mediums. Her strong foundation in fine art has helped her cultivate a unique aesthetic. Her flexibility, knowledge of technology, and experience working in both 2D and 3D environment has helped her create unique experiences for the audience. Riki's work is currently focused in creating multimedia contents and projection design for the live performance. She has worked on numerous Helen Hayes recommended shows critically acclaimed by the press including The Washington Post. www.rikik.net
MUSIC BY DJ TRAYZE - Trayze sets the dance floor on fire, whether behind the mixing board in the studio, or behind the turntables at the hottest clubs around the world. A brief snapshot of his recent music and entertainment industry accomplishments would reveal affiliations with Red Bull, Adidas Originals, and Live Nation. As an accomplished musician and producer/engineer, Trayze is well known in the DJ community for his unique and exciting music edits. www.djtrayze.com

La Fête des Lumières is a French tradition celebrating the artistic use of light in the city of Lyon, where buildings, monuments and public spaces are illuminated by video and light art. The event attracts 4 million viewers a year, bringing new life to the city during the winter.

“Larsen 3 G” (France) - JBG's Jefferson Courtyard, 1025 Thomas Jefferson Street NW
Larsen3g was created by Fabien Bourdier of Blixlab (with Samuel Mathiou and Labomedia) and produced by Merryl Messaoudi of Crossed Lab. “Larsen3G” is a participatory video “installation,” where images and video submitted via mobile devices are projected onto surrounding architecture.
“Zodiac” (Belgium)- Covered entrance at JBG Courtyard, 1025 Thomas Jefferson Street NW
Artist Chloé Yaiche presents “Zodiac,” a display of constellations inspired by NASA satellite imagery.
“Speak Tree” (Canada) - Grace Church, 1041 Wisconsin Avenue NW
Presented by Lucion Media of Montreal, Speak Tree is an interactive illuminated tree with words, messages and questions from the public projected along the virtual branches.
“Floating Lights” (Spain) - Washington Harbour, 3000 K Street NW
Presented by Travesías de Luz, this installation is also participatory, as people interact with a wall covered in lights and floatation rings by switching on and off the lights as they wish.
“Ciudad Habitada” (Spain)- Thomas Jefferson Street, between M and K NW
Another work by Travesías de Luz, “Ciudad Habitada” consists of lit mannequins in whimsical poses placed throughout the streets of Georgetown, which will pay homage to the neighborhood’s history.

“Floating Lights” and “Ciudad Habitada,” will remain on display throughout the festival.
Georgetown Holiday Window Competition
Neighborhood merchants create holiday-themed window displays using only four different materials for the second annual competition. *New this year: lights will be added as a fifth material in honor of the Fête des Lumières.
