Four years ago, we broke ground for two world-class museums. Saturday, December 9, and Sunday, December 10, be among the first to tour Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum for FREE.

Two Mississippi Museums. One unforgettable celebration.

Saturday, December 9, 2017Opening Day and Bicentennial Celebration

The celebration will begin on the plaza in front of the museum building at 11:00 a.m. Hear Civil Rights veterans and special guests share their stories and memories of the movement. Enjoy family friendly music and food trucks. Watch the ribbon cutting, and be among the first to see the two museums for FREE. Ticket required for entry. Guests will enter museums according to the time printed on their tickets. Plan to arrive 30 minutes earlier than the time listed on your ticket.

The celebration continues with an additional day of FREE tours. Ticket required for entry. Guests will enter according to the time printed on their tickets. Plan to arrive 30 minutes earlier than the time listed on your ticket.

Why are the museums using free timed tickets on opening weekend?

Free timed tickets on opening weekend will help us serve as many visitors as possible and maintain a secure and smooth flow of people into the building.

Do I have to have a ticket to enter the museums?

Yes. Although tickets are free this weekend only, everyone must show a ticket to get into the museum because we are expecting large crowds.

Do I have to get my ticket in advance?

Yes. Please use Eventbrite to secure tickets in advance.

How do I get my advance ticket?

Click the button in the upper right corner of this webpage to select a date and time. Follow the instructions to print your ticket.

Do I have to bring a printed ticket to the event?

No. You can show the ticket on your smartphone or show a printed ticket to enter.

Is it okay if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Yes. The name of the person on the ticket does not have to match the name of the person attending the event.

Do I need to arrive early?

Yes. Please plan to arrive 30 minutes ahead of the time listed on your ticket.

Do children require an advance ticket?

Yes. Adults need to obtain free timed tickets for all children.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes.

Download map here. Shuttles will be available on opening day. The drop-off location for persons who are disabled will be at Mississippi and North Streets.

Can I bring a group?

To tour the museums, each person must present a free timed ticket. Reserve up to six free tickets using the blue button above.

How do I prepare for weather conditions?

The Opening Ceremony will proceed rain or shine. Please give consideration to the possibility of inclement weather. Severe weather may require cancellation—check local forecasts and twomuseumsopening.com.

Can anyone attend the Opening Ceremony?

The Opening Ceremony will be free and open to the public.

Will there be seating for the Opening Ceremony?

Yes. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating begins at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.

What else is happening that day?

It’s a Bicentennial Celebration! Entergy Plaza will be buzzing with live music performances and food trucks. Following the Opening Ceremony, you can hop on a shuttle and visit Jackson’s downtown cultural attractions before your Two Museums tour time slot.

Will there be public restrooms available?

Yes, portolets will be available on Amite Street and Mississippi Street.
