Description

In honor of Open Education Week and in collaboration with universities across Ohio, Cleveland State University will be facilitating its first OpenCon Cleveland event on March 5th, 2018. The focus of the event will be the potential and value of open pedagogy efforts in higher education and other educational institutions. The facilitators of this event hope to increase awareness of and enthusiasm for open in the larger Ohio community and to begin establishing a network of open education advocates in the region. The deadline to register for this event is March 1st. More details are on the event website.

Event Schedule:

  • 9:45-10:00am - Welcome

  • 10:00-10:30am - Keynote: “The Power of Open: Designing for Affordable Learning” - Steve Kaufman

  • 10:30-11:00am - Presentation: "Adopting and Adapting Open Textbooks at Cleveland State University" - Glenda Thornton

  • 11:00-12:00pm - Faculty Panel: “The Faculty Perspective: Adopting or Adapting Open Textbooks” - Lisa Bernd, Heather Caprette, Kathy Curnow, Melanie Gagich

  • 12:00-1:30pm - Lunch on own

  • 1:30-2:30pm - Lightning Talks: “Creating, Using, or Remixing OERs” - Speakers TBD

  • 2:30-2:45pm - Break

  • 2:45-3:30 - Birds of a Feather discussions

    • Campus collaborations

    • Using OERs in the classroom

    • Technology hurdles

  • 3:30-3:45 - Wrap-up

Please note: this event is free of charge, but guests will be responsible for paying for guest parking on campus and lunch (guidance to nearby lunch venues will be provided).
