Open Studio with the Inaugural Cohort of the Midwest Jewish Artists Lab
Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (CST)
The process of creating art involves technical skill, inspiration, and of course lots of hard work. See the creative process in action during an open studio event with members the inaugural Chicago cohort of the Midwest Jewish Artists Lab.
Talk to the participating artists and gain an insider's view into the creative process. See informal demonstrations of bookbinding, painting, weaving, woodblock printing, and other art forms.
This program takes place in conjunction with Voices of Wisdom, a showcase of new works created in conjunction with the Midwest Jewish Artists Lab, an initiative through which Spertus brought together twelve distinguished artists for conversation, critiques, and community-building.
The artists were provided opportunities to study art from the Spertus collections, as well as learn from historians, art scholars, and experts in a range of related fields. During the course of the year-long program, each participant was charged with creating an artwork or series around the theme of wisdom.
Voices of Wisdom is on view in the Ground Level Arts Lab through March 19, 2017.
Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership offers dynamic learning opportunities, rooted in Jewish wisdom and culture and open to all.
