About this event
This is a three-day hybrid event, with virtual talks on Thursday and in-person+virtual hackathon sessions on Friday and Saturday. You can attend in person or remotely, for just one day or the whole summit.

OpenStates.org provides free, open civic data about the legislative process: bills, legislators, sponsorships and more all across the USA. For advocates, journalists, researchers and just the curious citizen, we provide free bill search and exploration, API access and bulk structured data. Millions of people use our tool to find out who represents them in their state legislature and Congress.
All of this is powered by open source software! We are driven by a long history of contributors and recently by Civic Eagle and our commitment to making policy data more discoverable, legible and collaborative.
Join us for our annual summit to learn the state of the project, discuss ideas for the future, get peeks into how community members are using this data, and find out how you can contribute!
This year we're adding two hackathon days dedicated to generating more open data. These are great opportunities for anyone eager to learn or polish up their web scraping skills, and for folks wanting to plug into civic tech.
Schedule (all times US Central time):
- Thursday, January 12: Livestream talks and discussion about the project and folks using our data (11am - 4pm)
- Friday, January 13: Hackathon - hybrid in-person and remote (10am to 6pm)
- Saturday, January 14: Hackathon - hybrid in-person and remote (10am to 6pm)

The Hackathon is a hybrid event: you can participate remotely or in person with us at the Keller Center in Chicago.
This event is being held in partnership with the University of Chicago’s Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy (MSCAPP) Program. We thank them for their generosity!
