Open Senses Workshop: Kinaesthetic Body Walks - Old Street.
Open Senses festival presents...
Kinaesthetic Body Walks
Is there a universal language travelling across the gravity field, that doesn’t belong to learnt parameters of time and space, and that our bodies can comprehend somehow when we reconnect to our kinaesthetic sense within the simple act of walking?
‘’The process is one of learning what to attend to both overtly and covertly’
(Gibson, 1966, The Senses Considered as Perceptual Systems).
For ‘Open Senses Festival’ Rebecca will guide a series of sensorial 'performative' walks, inviting a group of participants to dress up and ‘get lost’ together in the city. During each walk, lasting about 50 minutes with a 20 minutes preparatory warm up, each participant will choose to be blindfolded or ear plugged and pair up with a complementary partner. The group will have a chance to re-experience the urban scape and negotiate together a direction to follow, without speaking. At an agreed signal, after 20 minutes, the folds and plugs will be removed, and the site encountered will be explored through a contemplative moment of resonance and embodiment in dialogue with the environment, before swapping garments to return to the beginning of the journey.
These walks are for the curious, the inquisitive and for those who want to witness London from a new perspective.
Feel free to come as a group, in pairs or solo. Suitable for ages 16+
