Event description

Description

We would like to invite you to the third annual Open Planning Tools Symposium, to be held in Portland, Oregon on November 15-16, 2012. Building on years of work, and funded by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and the Sonoran Institute’s Western Lands and Communities Program, this intimate symposium serves as the country’s leading work-session for scenario planning tool developers, researchers, and high-level users. Following the 2010 meeting in Denver and 2011 meeting in Salt Lake City, the Lincoln Institute published Opening Access to Scenario Planning Tools. This Policy Focus Report made seven recommendations related to building capacity for tool users, creating online platforms for collaboration, data standards, and anticipatory governance. More details about the recommendations can be found at http://scenarioplanningtools.org/. Implementation of the recommendations is ongoing and this meeting will focus on furthering this effort, as well as provide an opportunity for tool developers to showcase their latest-and-greatest advances.

The exact meeting location is being finalized, but we have an official symposium hotel: Hotel Modera. This hotel, just a few blocks from Portland State University, is reserving a block of rooms at $119/night for all attendees. You can reserve this rate by calling the hotel directly at 503-484-1084 or 877-484-1084 and asking for the “Open Source Planning Tools Symposium Group Rate.” Or you can book online using the group code OPENSOURCE. The rooms will held for the group at the group rate until Friday October 12th. We encourage you to make your hotel reservations early, and we will be sending additional details, including an agenda, in the near future.
