Outline:

Opening session: Part 1: Getting acquainted; mapping of the Jewish identity of the group members. Part 2: Text Study - tradition Vs. Innovation in Judaism.

Session 1: The evolution of Jewish Identity throughout the decades; this session serves as a brief Introduction to classic Jewish literature.

Session 2: Makeover! From Tanakh (Bible) to Palmach^ - Jewish identity in the Zionist movement, Judaism as a religion Vs. a nationality and culture.

Session 3: Universalism versus particularism - what does it mean to "be Jewish" in the global era?

Session 4: Collective / Elective Identity - can they coexist?  How can individuals be encouraged to identify collectively in an age of unlimited affinity groups? How do we encourage millennials to “plug in” to their Jewishness?

Session 5: Intermarriage - Risk or Opportunity? Wrestling with the different challenges and assimilation.

Session 6: Reinventing the Jewish Community Establishment - How everything we have discussed so far affects the present and future relationship of Jews with community institutions (including the State of Israel).

Closing session - Content will be determined according to the interest of the group that was formed and will be based on the process they went through.

^Palmach (Hebrew: פלמ"ח‎, acronym for Plugot Maḥatz (Hebrew: פלוגות מחץ‎), lit. "strike forces") was the elite fighting force of the Haganah, the underground army of the Yishuv (Jewish community) during the period of the British Mandate for Palestine.

*It is important to note that the sources we will use in this course are not only classical Jewish sources, but also modern sources, academic articles, surveys, reviews and newspaper articles. It will also include the use of YouTube videos and will be somewhat more of a workshop in its nature than just text studies and discussions.
