Monday Night Open Mic! A Busboys and Poetry Event For two hours audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week.
Brooklyn, NY native Beny Blaq discovered he had an interest in poetry at the age of 13. Inspired by the art form of poetry and spoken word, which he calls the "greatest forum of expression"; he decided to give his writing life. Beny penned the phrase “Silence is Forbidden” as his personal testimony to the awakening of his voice. He would call his writings simple but passionate, shadowing his own life and experiences. In a quest to fulfill his dreams, he has taken his journey and his message to the masses. He has performed and featured nationally at various open mic venues, community events, and performed at over 50 Colleges and Universities. Beny has conducted writing workshops in various public schools, headlined at the Larry Neal awarded play "Prison Poetry" at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC. He has also been blessed with the opportunity to appear on various radio and TV outlets, such as BET's Lyric Cafe, TV One and WHUR, and has made an appearance on HBO’s hit series “The Wire”.
When he’s not performing, Beny is busy managing his company, Beny Blaq Entertainment, LLC (BBE), promoting various events throughout the Washington, DC area. Keeping with his love of poetry, Beny has produced the hit poetry showcase, “Silence is Forbidden”, and currently promotes “The @ttic” - a monthly spoken word showcase event. He also promotes “Touch My Soul”, which is a live music event that encompasses Neo-Soul, Jazz and R&B.
