The youngest Indiana Poet Laureate nominee, is an activist, poet, author, educator, lecturer, musician, and motivational speaker. A virtuosic performer, with an acute ability to interlace complex threads with conventional wisdom. Her works are unique in which, Jones brilliantly marries the art of story telling to the audaciousness of Hip Hop which breeds Literature in full throttle. A prolific writer, Tasha Jones soothes the soul and heals the body with words that cleverly infuses everyday life experiences with scripture to create works that empower. The diversity in her writings garner HOPE.
The ardent fervor Jones exemplifies in performances is matched by her commitment to community. She is front runner in the literacy movement creating The Write Me Project curricula and I MUST READ to lend solutions the problem. Active with HIV/AIDS education in which, she penned Silent Killer, her first commissioned work that has been used as a training/teaching tool and includes HIV/AIDS activists Magic Johnson and Hydeia Broadbent. As a champion of education Jones’s service and responsibility to the youth is the spark that ignites her flame. Hello BeautifulTM, an account of Jones’s experiences as an educator in the Indianapolis School System, focuses on the power of words and the impact words have on todays youth and tomorrows future. Two words, Hello BeautifulTM revitalize 26 students, redirected momentum, and changed self-destructive/self-sabotaging behavior in the class room and now empowers the world.
The genius of Tasha Jones centers on her ability to lend simple wisdom in profound and moving ways. A powerful prowess of expression with the soul and sage of a griot, Tasha Jones is a pure breath of fresh air and definitely “THE ONE to WATCH,” as stated by the Indianapolis Star.
