This is the last meeting in the Toastmasters year for Russian English Speakers. We are one of the very few Toastmasters public speaking clubs which include Russian in our program, and possibly the only one that is truly bilingual. Members and guests are encouraged to speak either Russian or English, or in some cases mixing both in the same presentation. This Open Meeting is a celebration of the successful conclusion of the last 12 months, saying thank you to the outgoing leadership team and welcoming in the new team who take over in July. We are also pleased to showcase some outstanding local talent. Our two newest members will give their "Icebreaker" speech - one of them in Russian (with subtitles). We are also delighted to welcome notable humorist Ian Hawkins as a guest speaker. He was a finalist at the recent Londinium Toastmasters conference. Thien Nguyen beat hundreds of competitors in Toastmasters International Speech contest to take the title of champion in District 91, which includes London, South Wales, South West and South Eastern England. Thien is heading to Washington DC to take part in the global World Championships in August and is keen to perfect her speech. You will be invited to give feedback and suggestions on how to maximise her winning chances. In addition members, visiting Toastmasters and guests will be invited to speak during the evening. We are continuing our Membership Drive through June, and you are urged to bring along any Russian speakers you may know, in your club or at work. We will make them feel welcome, and show them how they can enrich their Toastmasters experience in an additional language. The venue is quite small, so we are asking all attendees to register in advance.
