This December, Brusven Theatrical is excited to bring the New York based Open Jar Institue to Fargo for a three-day Broadway Training Camp.
For the past 13 summers, Open Jar, New York City's most Broadway-integrated actor training program, has held a week long training program which has provided select students an intensive one-on-one training with some of Broadway's biggest stars, performers, directors, choreographers, agents and casting directors.
This Christmas break, Brusven Theatrical is bringing four of Broadway's finest to Fargo to work with up to 60 regional High School (age 14+) and College Students who are looking to grow their craft and participate in this life changing program. This three-day intensive training program will give you a taste of the full Open Jar experience.
Our Broadway guest artists are: Broadway Associate Director/Choreographer & Open Jar Artistic Director Jeff Whiting, Broadway Associate Director/Choreographer James Grey, Broadway Music Director and Conductor Jesse Kissel, and Broadway and National Touring actress Stacia Fernandez.
What To Expect: Three Days of INCREDIBLE training by leading Broadway professionals, the opportunity to audition for two Broadway Associate Directors/Chroreographers, Audition for the Summer Open Jar Actor Training Program, (one student will be selected to go to the full summer training program on a full tuition scholarship provided by Brusven Theatrical) AND you will showcase your work to the public at the end of the three day training program!
No matter what aspect of musical theatre you participate in, the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of that skill is in delivering a truthful performance. Whether in singing a song, or in dancing a step it MUST have some message underneath it - some reason to express through song or dance. There is ALWAYS a reason for everything! During your training we will work every angle acting through your performance. Every participant will get one-on-one acting coaching and training.
In your voice class, you'll work one-on-one to work on your audition songs. The work can include vocal technique, acting your song, performance tips - all preparing you to perfect your audition piece. Be sure to bring material to work on. Everyone should bring two short contrasting audition songs ready to work. (Brusven Theatrical will have prep workshops for this with local leaders)
What You Need To Prepare:
Each song should be cut to a 32-bar cut showing off the best part of the song.
The song shows off your voice and should have a strong ending.
The song is sung by a role in a musical that you could be cast in. (age appropriate, etc.)
Your two songs should be contrasting. (Uptempo/Ballad or Funny/Serious or Belty/Legit)
Music needs to be clearly marked for an accompanist to play your cutting. Place music in plastic sheets in a 3-ring binder.
You must know the words to your song EXTREMELY well. Your coach is going to ask you to try different acting objectives during your song, so you must know it backwards and forwards in order to really be ready to work.
During your time in the Open Jar dance classes you will learn several original dance combinations from broadway productions with James Gray. You will also be run through a broadway dance audition.
OPEN JAR SUMMER AUDITIONS
On Thursday December 29, you will put all of your work into action for the Open Jar Auditions with Artistic Director Jeff Whiting and Co-Director James Grey. These auditions are for a spot to attend the summer Open Jar Training Program. Hundreds of students from over 45 cities nationally and internationally audition and only 60 students are selected to attend the full program. You'll participate in a DANCE audition and a SINGING audition - just like it's done for Broadway auditions.
All auditioners are auditioning for a chance to be invited to join the full summer Open Jar Institue. One student from this three-day intensive will be choosen and given a full tuition scholarship to the week-long Open Jar Institue in NYC this coming summer provided by Brusven Theatrical. (Please note...more students from the FM Area may be selected to attend Open Jar's full program this summer, however, one student in this program will be selected to attend and will receive a full tuition scholarship from Brusven Theatrical)
