Written by Regina Taylor
Directed by Delroy Lindo
Set in post-World War II America, Oo-Bla-Dee follows four black female musicians who dream of hitting it big in the world of bebop music. As they strive to find an outlet for their sound, the band of black musicians struggles to rise above the constraints of racism and sexism. A winner of the American Critics’ Association new play award, Regina Taylor’s Oo-Bla-Dee mixes naturalism and expressionism, comedy and tragedy, classical and bebop, presenting what the Chicago Tribune called a "jazzy mélange" of powerful theater.
