Description

Ultrasound provides an effective and noninvasive means of assessing a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. The procedure can also be useful in implementing therapeutic interventions. With the rapidly expanding utility of ultrasound in musculoskeletal medicine, the Department of Radiology and Imaging at Hospital for Special Surgery will host the HSS Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course: A Hands-On, Interactive Experience on October 11-12, 2019 to address the many indications of ultrasound. The Department of Radiology and Imaging is a national and international leader in musculoskeletal imaging with its development of innovative techniques and protocols. Its Center for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound performs over 10,000 musculoskeletal ultrasound procedures each year.

Accreditation and Credit Designation
Physicians: Hospital for Special Surgery is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Hospital for Special Surgery designates this live activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Day 1 is designated for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and Day 2 is designated for a maximum of 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Sonographers: This course meets CME requirements for ARDMS. Sonographers can claim up to 4 CME credits for Day 1 and 2 CME credits for Day 2.

Athletic Trainers: Hospital for Special Surgery (BOC AP# P537) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 8 EBP Category hours/CEUs for Day 1 and 4 EBP Category hours/CEUs for Day 2.

ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

Physical Therapists: Hospital for Special Surgery is a New York State Education Department approved provider for physical therapy continuing education.

Hospital for Special Surgery designates this activity for a maximum of 8 Contact Hours for Day 1 and 4 Contact Hours for Day 2.

Target Audience
This activity is targeted to radiologists, sports medicine physicians and surgeons, physiatrists, athletic trainers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and sonographers. Physical therapists, residents, fellows, and medical students may also benefit from this activity.

Learning Objectives
HSS continuing medical professional education activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the completion of the course, the participant should be able to:

Upon completion of Day 1, participants will:

  • Identify and interpret the musculoskeletal structures in the upper and lower extremities that can be visualized and effectively assessed under ultrasound.

  • Explain basic concepts of diagnostic musculoskeletal sonography, such as appearance of bone, muscle, tendon, ligament, and nerves.

  • Describe and assess pathology on sonographic images pertaining to musculoskeletal structures.

  • Recognize the array of musculoskeletal procedures and interventions that can be performed under ultrasound guidance for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the upper and lower extremities.

Upon completion of Day 2, participants will:

  • Implement the array of musculoskeletal procedures and interventions that can be performed under ultrasound guidance for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the upper and lower extremities.

Registration Fees
Registration fees include breakfast, lunch, online access to lecture handouts and credits. Registration closes October 7, 2019 at 5pm.

For day-of registration for the onsite course, add $75 to the ticket price listed (available only if space permits – please call first). Please note: Registration will not be processed unless accompanied by payment.

Confirmations
All registered participants will receive a confirmation via e-mail.

Refund Policy
A handling fee of $75 is deducted for cancellation. Refund requests must be received by mail one week prior to the course. No refund will be made thereafter.

Hospital for Special Surgery reserves the right to cancel this course. In the unlikely event the course is cancelled, HSS will issue a full refund of the registration fee, but will not be responsible for any other charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the course.
