Only one Tanzania: SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Date and time
Location
Online event
The webinar primarily aims to make sustainable transport a force for the SDGs and climate action in Tanzania.
About this event
In amplifying Sustainable transport as a pathway to environmental sustainability, the UN Global Compact Local chapter, the Global Compact Network Tanzania (GCNT), and Scania Tanzania have organized the Sustainable transport for better Environment Webinar. The webinar primarily aims to make sustainable transport a force for the SDGs and climate action in Tanzania.
Air pollution is the contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. Household combustion devices, motor vehicles, industrial facilities, and forest fires are common sources of air pollution. Pollutants of major public health concern include particulate matter, carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide. Outdoor and indoor air pollution cause respiratory and other diseases and are important sources of morbidity and mortality.
A passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. This number can vary based on a vehicle’s fuel, fuel economy, and the number of miles driven per year. CO2 Emissions from a gallon of gasoline: 8,887 grams CO2/ gallon. CO2 Emissions from a gallon of diesel: 10,180 grams CO2/ gallon.
The average passenger vehicle emits about 404 grams of CO2 per mile. A typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. This assumes the average gasoline vehicle on the road today has a fuel economy of about 22.0 miles per gallon and drives around 11,500 miles per year. Every gallon of gasoline burned creates about 8,887 grams of CO2.
Objective
The objective of the webinar is to make sustainable transport a force for the SDGs and climate action in Tanzania.
Expected Outcomes
The webinar will come with the following outcomes;
i. Improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of low- or zero-carbon energy sources, such as alternative fuels or renewables-powered electric vehicles
ii. Promote policies and actions conducive to healthy and safe modes of transport
iii. Creating an understanding and intentionally leveraging the interlinkages between sustainable transport and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
iv. Integrate transport, health and environmental objectives into urban and spatial planning policies
