Experienced field UAV (drone) instructors offer this theory-based Night UAV flight training course to equip remote pilots with the knowledge, skills and confidence to pilot the UAV safely, efficiently and effectively, in night-time environments. Once the written test is successfully completed, attendees will receive certification of completion which can be attached to 107.29 waiver applications with the FAA, or to demonstrate currency and training in night flight operations.

About the workshop: Night flying has a higher incident or accident rate than day flying, both in UAV and manned aviation. Why? There are many causes. Depth perception is severely distorted, as is reaction time. There are also visual illusions which must be recognized and mitigated. This is a practical hands-on class where visual illusions will be experienced in the field as instructors share best practices for night flying *(practical flight training locations).

The virtual workshop will focus on a comprehensive theory session where instructors will review/explain FAA rules of night UAV flight (What is a 107.29 waiver?) and showcase:

• Different types of visual illusions that commonly occur at night

• Autokinesis and night landing Illusions and how to avoid them

• Equipment setup

• Risk Mitigation

• Importance of acclimating your eye for night flight & avoid light contamination

And we will round out the workshop with an overview of how to apply for a 107.29 waiver with the FAA.

This workshop is designed to provide all the necessary information needed to empower pilots to sidestep these challenges, while properly assessing and managing the risks associated with night flight (as waived per Part 107.29).
