Online: Essential Components 2, with John Biebel
Event Information
About this Event
Have you started your perfume practice, but want to learn more about specialized materials? John is here to help.
Building off 'Essential Components, Part 1,' independent perfumer John Biebel provides an introduction to specialized perfume materials, itemizing and describing some of the important components that a perfumer would want to add to their arsenal, in order to enhance their accords and perfume blending. This overview of materials will explore the purpose of these components, and the importance they play in creating fragrances.
In this course, we’ll move forward from the materials discussed in Essential Components Part 1, in which we discussed basic materials that a new perfumer can explore when they make their start at understanding ingredients and begin blending.
In Essential Components Part 2, we’ll look at more specialized materials and the functions that they perform in creating perfumes. They will include essential oils, CO2 extractions, aroma chemicals, and other material derived from varying sources. This course will cover 36 primary substances with some variations for comparison.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Your instructor will have each of the various essential oils, aroma chemicals and other materials available for you to see, with detailed descriptions given of each. We’ll also discuss why each of these materials are important to the perfumer, and what can be done with them.
Some specific topics discussed are: component aromachemicals; synergistic elements; spice notes; gourmand flourishes; fresh, green transformative notes; fruit notes; wood, leather, and tobacco notes; some interesting miscellaneous notes.
We’ll cover roughly 36 elements over the course (with some variants also introduced) all of which will be provided as a list at the end, along with suppliers’ information, a slide deck of further data, and some helpful publications for more study. There will be a lot of information presented in the hour and a half, but plenty of time to ask questions and take notes along the way.
