Event description

Description

One Walsall are pleased to launch the first meetings of its new ‘One Voice’ voluntary sector network.

‘One Voice’ will operate on a locality basis and enable local voluntary and community sector organisations to come together on a regular basis to:

  • Network with each other to share: contacts, information, resources and good practice.
  • Connect with other sectors to find out about, and influence, relevant developments and initiatives.
  • Voice their views, collectively or as individual organisations, but particularly to inform and mandate any sector representatives.
  • Discuss, explore and develop collective solutions to local issues as they arise.
  • To establish from within its membership bidding consortia that can access funding opportunities as they arise.

Taking a fresh perspective

To kick off the network, we want to take a fresh look at to how the sector sees itself; moving away from a negative perspective fuelled by austerity and cuts, to a perspective that recognises the assets we have at our disposal. As a sector, we draw on a wide range of resources such as individual and group skillsets, volunteer time, community venues and other physical resources. Recent years have led us to focus on the reduction in financial resources available to us, but we think we need to make more of the resources we do have, and take a fresh look at how we use them to benefit our communities.

We want to support you to become key players in supporting and influencing the development of your community and the services that support them.

Meetings are free to attend and will last no more than 2.5 hours. All you need to bring is an open mind and be prepared to contribute to the discussions.

The agenda for our initial meetings will cover

  • Identify the good. What is good about where we work and our organisations? What are assets exist within our communities and how well are we using them?
  • Activate! Using a simple toolkit, we’ll take a fresh approach to developing projects
  • Collaborate. Considering how future meetings will take place and how we’ll work together.
  • Capture the learning? How might we use the learning from today to develop projects that meet the needs of our communities?
