One Voice Africa Month - Women in Government Townhall
Event Information
About this Event
The One Voice Africa platform was established in 2017 to engage, educate and empower the African Voice in discussing positive policies that impact their communities. One Voice recognizes the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Week as a platform for political leaders in the Black Community that discuss issues and policies that affect us.During this time, we normally prepare for our One Voice Reception during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference in September, however, due to COVID-19, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference will be 100% online this year. The conference will be from August 31 – October 2, 2020. Therefore, we will not hold our annual reception. Instead, One Voice Africa will plan for a series of virtual town hall meetings during the month of September.
This Town Hall will feature Women in Government in the United States and Africa to discuss the role that women will play in transforming the relationship with Africa and the United States post COVID 19. During this Global pandemic we have seen the interest in Africa as a direct competitor to China through US initiatives like Prosper Africa and the PAC-DBIA. During this 90 minute Town Hall each of our guests will give their thoughts and how their role as a woman in Government can shape the thought process of the leaders from the US and African countries to begin this new and accelerated interest in doing business in Africa. Women are pivotal in this role because of the overwhelmingly number of women running for office and winning and the Presidential elections in the US quickly approaching we need to collectively discuss how to best move forward with our African counterparts from trade to gender equality. Our host and moderator will take questions prior to the Town Hall and will broadcast live on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to engage women from around the world to join this important conversation and show the collective power of Women in Government in 2020 and beyond.
