About this event

Food systems are all the pieces, products and interactions along the food value chain—from financing, soil, feed, and production of crops, livestock, fish, and other agricultural commodities... to transportation, processing, retailing, wholesaling, and preparation of foods to consumption and of course, disposal.

Food systems also include supportive policy, regulations, cultural norms and understandings around food.

Ideal food systems would be health-focused, productive and efficient, environmentally sustainable, climate-smart, and inclusive from a social justice perspective. To realize such a vision, it's critical to understand the components and how they work together. The speaker series for 2022-2023 focuses on a different aspect of the food system each month, giving participants a holistic understanding of how the system works together and where investments, research, development and innovations need to be made.
