ONE OF LOVE - a Jonathan Daniels story- A One Act Play and Talk Back
Event Information
Description
One Of Love debuted in 2018 at the Bridgeport's Bijou Theatre and the historic St John's Episcopal Church, Bridgeport, CT. This is a powerful, original play written and directed by Rev Ina Alisa Anderson. This distinct production had such a marvelous cast last year and this year we thought we would feature the 3 main characters. This is 2019 production is a One Act show that will be “Up Close and Personal”. The message is still LOVE! Love of God, Love of Oneself and Love of our Fellowman. Without it, this so-called Love, how will we reconcile humanity?
Jonathan Daniels’ death is celebrated every year somewhere. He is on the Episcopal Calendar, canonized as a Saint, memorialized at the Southern Poverty Law Center's Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama and there is a pilgrimage that takes place to Hayneville, Ala every year to commemorate his death. His acts of Social Justice he saw, as a Call!
Ruby Sales the young girl was threatened by a shotgun-wielding construction worker, Tom Coleman, who was a special county deputy. Jonathan Daniels, a white Episcopal seminarian, pushed her out of the way and took the shot meant for her, dying instantly. Now 71, Ms. Sales, a Human Rights Advocate is still working and speaking on behalf of justice for the people and against the constructs of White Supremacy and systems!
After the production, there will be a brief Q & A with the director and cast, and a brief discussion, (Town Hall if you will) among the audience before we break for some light refreshments then depart! I look forward to seeing you all in the house for this intimate time we shall spend together.
