About the book: With unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and page-turning suspense, Circe is a triumph of storytelling, an intoxicating epic of family rivalry, palace intrigue, love, and loss, as well as a celebration of indomitable female strength in a man's world.

In the house of Helios, a daughter, Circe, is born. But Circe is a peculiar child with few of the usual demigod gifts. Despised by her parents and sisters, she turns to the world of mortals for companionship and discovers she possesses the power of witchcraft — able to transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Threatened by her power, Zeus banishes Circe to a desert island. Over the centuries she hones her craft and crosses paths with famous mythic figures including the Minotaur, Daedalus and Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus.

But there is danger for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians.

Circe is short-listed for the Women's Prize for Fiction, the UK’s most prestigious annual book award celebrating women’s fiction, and is being adapted for a TV series for HBO Max.
