Event description

Description

One Book One Bronx is a new style reading group that inspires, encourages, and delights readers. Every week, we meet to discuss one book that reflects the people of the Bronx. Sessions are free to join. The first 25 attendees receive a free copy of the book. Participants are encouraged to attend all five sessions: Tuesdays, 6:30pm to 8:00pm, April 16, 23, 30, May 7, & 14, 2019

In her debut short story collection, Camille Acker unleashes the irony and tragic comedy of respectability onto a wide-ranging cast of characters, all of whom call Washington, DC, home. A “woke” millennial tries to fight gentrification, only to learn she’s part of the problem; a grade school teacher dreams of a better DC, only to take out her frustrations on her students; and a young piano player wins a competition, only to learn the prize is worthless. 232 pages

If you cannot attend One Book One Bronx but would like to read Training School for Negro Girls and follow along, click here to purchase the book.

One Book One Bronx is presented by the Literary Freedom Project. LFP believes that cultural identity is a fundamental cornerstone in the development of smart, creative, and engaged communities. These qualities, on which cultures are sustained and strengthened, are honed, in part, through a mix immersive reading –academic, vocational, and pleasure.
