Event description

Two ON TRACK management discussion days will be held to enable collection holders to discuss the strategic challenges and opportunities involved in working with sound recordings in Scotland. The events will provide dedicated time and space for management-level knowledge exchange in a small-group setting. We would encourage participants to attend both days in order to build on the group dynamic.

DAY ONE: Tuesday 15 November 2016

Discussion session 1: RAISING THE QUESTIONS

What are the opportunities to seize and barriers to overcome within your sound archiving work?

Beth shares an overview of the challenges faced by organisations managing sound collections, and offers some ideas for moving forward.

Discussion session 2: FINDING SOLUTIONS

How can we help each other make decisions which will help us seize opportunities and overcome barriers?

DAY TWO: Tuesday 21 February 2017

Please note that the agenda may be subject to change based on the discussions on Day 1.

Discussion session 3: PROVIDING ACCESS

What are your challenges in providing access to your sound collections, and what solutions have you found?

Presentation: UNLOCKING THE UK's SOUND HERITAGE, Will Prentice, British Library

Discussion session 4: PLANNING AHEAD

How can you find the right resources for your sound archives?

Connecting Scotland’s Sounds is a project funded by Esmee Fairbairn from 2016 to 2017 to champion the preservation and sharing of Scotland’s audio heritage.

Please note

The Connecting Scotland's Sounds focus days are designed for small groups and places are limited; we would encourage you to sign up to events as soon as possible so that you don’t miss out.

Terms and conditions

Connecting Scotland’s Sounds training events are free to attend, but we would like to ensure that all participants make a contribution to the programme in the form of feedback. In order to carry out meaningful evaluation for our funders Esmee Fairbairn, we ask that you make time to fill out any surveys that you are sent requesting your feedback.

If there are any events where less than 8 people have booked to attend, the event will be cancelled. If an event has to be cancelled, Connecting Scotland’s Sounds cannot be held liable for any pre-booked travel or accommodation. Booking deadlines are set for two weeks before the event is due to take place, and at this stage confirmations will be issued to all those who have signed up to attend.

We welcome participation in our training programmes by students and other interested parties, but if an event is oversubscribed we will prioritise places for participants who are currently actively caring for Scotland’s sound archives.
