The On the Road Collaborative Discovering Justice Mock Trial is the culminating showcase event to our 10-week legal career enrichment project.
This group of 12 middle school youth from the On the Road Collaborative after school program at Skyline Middle School are learning trial advocacy skills against the background of a mock civil case, led by a team of local attorneys who are serving as volunteer On the Road Community Teachers.
The case, Gonzalez v. City of Bostonia, involves Teresa Gonzalez who was injured after falling into an open manhole. She claims that the City of Bostonia was negligent in leaving the manhole uncovered while the City claims that Teresa was negligent herself because she was texting while walking.
The Mock Trial:
The students will argue a full Mock Trial, presided by Judge Eldridge, in Courtroom A of the Circut Courthouse in Harrisonburg, and decided by a jury of local lay people.
Families and community guests are invited to attend. Space is limited so reserve your ticket today.
Additional Event Information:
The Mock Trial will begin at 6:00 p.m. Please leave enough time to enter the courthouse, go through the metal detector and find a seat in the Courthouse.
