Do you love making music? Would you like to improve your skills and perform with other youth and with an established band? On Saturday, March 16, Pathways to Education will be teaming up with local band The Gertrudes to offer twenty lucky high school students the opportunity of a lifetime.
Students will be participating in two morning workshops led by members of The Gertrudes, with instruments provided by Joe's M.I.L.L. After lunch (students are to bring their own lunch), all twenty students will be rehearsing together for a joint performance to be held later that afternoon. At 3 PM, the community is invited to a free concert by the Gertrudes to be held at the Boys and Girls Club, with the students' piece being the grand finale.
Here's a little more about the three workshop rotations:
Sing your heart out with this group who will be also leading the song with these melodic instruments, providing the "melody and tune.
Own the groove in this group and explore the rhythmic interplay of drums and bass, the backbone of this song.
Electric (guitar, keys, electronics)
Add harmonic character to the song with cool (electrified) sounds. Get experimental and rock out.

Pathways to Education
Every year, thousands of Canadian students make the life-altering decision to drop out of high school. In some of the country’s most vulnerable neighbourhoods, more than 50 per cent of students do not graduate high school, taking a dramatic toll on our communities, our health and justice systems, and our economy.
Pathways to Education is helping youth in low-income communities graduate from high school and successfully transition into post-secondary education. Pathways addresses systemic barriers to education by providing leadership, expertise and a community-based program proven to lower dropout rates.
Founded in 2001, Pathways operates in 12 communities across Canada, including the Rideau Heights and Inner Harbour neighbourhoods in Kingston.
