Description

SATURDAY, JUNE 9, 2018 11:59pm: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969, dir by Peter Hunt; 4K DCP or 35mm, Park Circus)

1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service starring one-time only Bond, Australian George Lazenby, is THE most underrated Bond in the entire canon. But as time has progressed, it has slowly but surely found its place as one of the top 3 Bond films of almost every critic’s, connoisseur’s, and fan’s list.

When Sean Connery decided not to return for Majesty’s (a what if bemoaned by almost all Bond fans as it’s generally agreed that had Connery starred, this would be the indisputable best Bond), the producers found Australian George Lazenby to take over the role. And Lazenby does a great job. He provides a performance somewhere between the steely brutality and unsentimental gallows humor of Connery and the bon vivant wit of Roger Moore.

Majesty’s also has the best Female Lead (along with Eva Greene in 2006’s Casino Royale) of the entire Bond series: Dame Diana Ring.

Here, Bond has to track down the whereabouts of Bloefeld, who fled at the end of You Only Live Twice, as it is rumored that Bloefeld is planning to unleash chemical warfare on an unsuspecting world. Bond’s journey has him cross paths with self-destructive, violent, fiery, independent, Tracy Draco (played brilliantly and willfully by Diana Rigg), daughter of international mafioso, Draco.

The beautiful secret of the movie is that while this Bond has all the action, international intrigue, globe hopping locations, production design of previous Bonds, it also, for the first time, has an incredibly moving love story that places it on the list with cinema’s other great romances.. That’s right. James Bond falls in love. Truly.

This Bond contains an action sequence that starts at the top of the Alps, plows through a stock car chase, and ends in an avalanche that, along with Spielberg’s desert truck chase in Raiders of the Lost Ark, is one of the greatest non-stop action sequences ever put to film.

But it has so much more: one of the best Bond scores, one of the most shocking Bond endings, one of the most fun Bond lairs. Come discover THE James Bond everyone should see.

best always,

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

TICKETS: Tickets are available online at Eventbrite.com or through each individual event on our Facebook Page: movieclub35mm. Just make sure you verify the date, time, and location (The Vista Theater, 4473 Sunset Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90027). We also make tickets available at the Vista Box Office.

REFUNDS: We will honor all refund requests as long as they are made 24 hours or more before the listed start time of the screening. After that, no refunds. Sorry.

HOW DOES THE ALL-ACCESS (APRIL-JUNE 2018) PASS WORK: If you buy an ALL-ACCESS PASS (access to all 26 movies we’re showing from April-June 2018), you get entrance into every single movie we show throughout our Spring Season. This is our best deal at $170 (roughly $6.50 per movie). No matter through which movie you buy the ALL-ACCESS PASS, we generate a special list with your name on it. All you have to do is come to our table ahead of each movie, give us your name, and get your ticket.

HOW DOES THE SERIES PASS WORK: If you buy an Individual Series Pass, you gain entrance to all movies in that series. This is our next best deal after the All-Access Pass. If you know you can make April but not May (for example), this is the way to go. Each Series Pass is different depending on how many movies are shown in that series. So for instance if we are showing 6 movies in the series, the pass would cost $54 (or $9 per movie). If we are showing 10 movies in the series, the pass would cost $90, and so on. No matter through which movie you buy the Individual Series Pass, we generate a special list with your name on it. All you have to do is come to our table ahead of each movie, give us your name, and get your ticket.

MOVIEPASS: Yes! The Vista does accept MoviePass for our events (as of March 2018). There is an additional charge of $3-$4 per ticket because we are a private event. So if you want to use MoviePass, you can; you just need to get your tickets in person (and bring $3-$4/per MoviePass ticket) at the Vista Box Office anytime they are open.

CONCESSIONS: The Vista Concessions stand is open for all our events. So you will always have access to popcorn, soda, candy, coffee the works!

PARKING: The Vista has no dedicated parking lot. Thankfully, there is lots of parking in the residential areas around the Vista Theater. Just plan to get to the theater 15 minutes earlier than normal so you have enough time to park, get your tickets, get in line. Make sure you read the street signs to make sure you are good to park! We don’t want any Secret Movie Clubbers getting parking tickets.

SHOWTIMES: We screen our movies before or after the Vista’s official movies. This is why most of our showtimes are either at midnight or 10:30am in the morning. We will be screening several movies during more regular hours (8pm-10pm) this year when we have a special speaker or event. Always check the listed showtime before buying your ticket.

MAILING LIST: We started as a secret email list way back in April of 2016. In respect to our origins, we will always announce our upcoming seasons, special events, and speakers via the email list first before posting to Facebook or anywhere else. If you’d like to get on the secret email list, just email us at: secretmovieclub@curiousproductions.com.

OTHER QUESTIONS: You can always email us at: secretmovieclub@curiousproductions.com . We work to respond asap within receipt of your email. If you don't get a response within 48 hours, please email us again.
