FAQs for Startups

1. What is the application deadline?

  • Wednesday, February 20, 2019.

2. What exactly is the On Fire to Hire Startup Expo?

  • It is a career networking event for startups to connect with Northeastern students and alumni seeking co-op positions for Fall 2019, full-time jobs, and internships. It is not an event to sell your products or services.

3. Is there a fee for the On Fire to Hire Startup Expo?

  • No, there is no fee to participate at the Expo, however, every startup is required to post at least one co-op position for the Fall 2019 co-op cycle that begins in July 2019. Up to a MAXIMUM OF TWO REPRESENTATIVES of your startup may attend.

4. I understand that participating startups are required to post a co-op position, but I am not familiar with Northeastern’s Co-op Program. Where can I learn more about it?

  • You should read the Co-op Employer Handbook, since it defines the university-employer relationship and employer expectations. Employers hire eligible Northeastern students into compensated, full-time (35+ hours per week) co-op positions during the applicable six-month co-op cycle. Co-op students must be hired as “employees,” not “independent contractors.” The Fall coop cycle is July through December and the Spring cycle is January through June. To learn more about the co-op program, visit the Co-op site.

5. Do we have to post a co-op position to participate?

  • Yes. Startups that are not yet engaged with Northeastern as a co-op employer-partner will be introduced to a Co-op Director based upon the responses to the questions on the registration form. They or a Co-op Faculty member will follow-up with you to share more information about the co-op program and the next steps in the process. If your startup is not yet a co-op employer, your registration will be “waitlisted” until it is confirmed that you have an approved co-op job description posted in our co-op jobs portal.

6. Our startup has a small, cohesive team. Can we all attend and participate at the Expo?

  • Each participating startup can register up to a maximum of two representatives.

7. What is included in our registration?

  • A three-foot table, table signage, tablecloth, promotion on the Expo site and through social media, as well as a boxed dinner. Access to electricity cannot be guaranteed. Feel free to bring swag to share and to decorate your space. Since space is limited, large tradeshow booths are not permitted.
