Description

Sandra Cisneros is a poet, short story writer, novelist, essayist, performer, and artist. Her work explores the lives of working-class people. Join us for a special Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead conversation between Cisneros and On Being host Krista Tippett about Cisneros's life, writing and creativity.

Appetizers and drinks will be provided with the cost of admission to the event, which is in partnership with Centro Tyrone Guzman, Minneapolis' oldest and largest multi-service Latino organization. All ticket sale proceeds will benefit Centro Tyrone Guzman.

The conversation will be held at The On Being Project studios in Minneapolis and will be recorded for possible radio broadcast and podcast.

Sandra Cisneros's numerous awards include NEA fellowships in both poetry and fiction, a MacArthur Fellowship and the National Medal of the Arts award presented to her by President Obama in 2016. Her classic, coming-of-age novel, The House on Mango Street, has sold over six million copies, has been translated into over twenty languages, and is required reading in elementary, high school, and universities across the nation.

Krista Tippett is a Peabody-award winning broadcaster, National Humanities Medalist, and New York Times bestselling author. She founded and leads The On Being Project, hosts the globally esteemed On Being public radio show and podcast, and curates the Civil Conversations Project, an emergent approach to conversation and relationship across the differences of our age. Krista grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, attended Brown University, became a journalist and diplomat in Cold War Berlin, and later received a Master of Divinity from Yale University. Her books include Becoming Wise: An Inquiry into the Mystery and Art of Living, and Einstein’s God: Conversations about Science and the Human Spirit.
