Event description

Description

Join us for two magical evenings of immersive storytelling and sound from the creative vanguard of Los Angeles.

Thursday Nov 7
Art of the Podcast: Dispatches from the Vanguard of Audio Storytelling
A multi-dimensional evening of performances and conversations exploring the art of the podcast in three acts.
7:00p cocktail hour and meet & greet with the performers
8:00p sharp, programming begins
Act 1: Stranger than Fiction, the craft of telling human stories with Ben Adair (Dirty John, Doctor Death, Western Sound) and Lea Thau (Strangers)
Act 2: The Memory Palace, a multi-sensory retelling of a true moment in American history performed by sound artist and creator Nate DiMeo. The performance is followed by a conversation with DiMeo and film critic Amy Nicholson on how the podcast medium takes its place in the art world.
Act 3: Moonface, a theatrical performance from James Kim and the cast of the highly acclaimed audio drama about a Korean American son, his mother, and the secrets they both carry.

Friday Nov 8
Music and Storytelling: Artists at the Crossroads
A special evening bridging the worlds of podcasts, lyrics and narrative.
7:00p cocktail hour and meet & greet with the performers
8:00p sharp, programming begins
Act 1: An Ode to Sound, from Kaitlin Prest (The Heart, The Shadows)
Act 2: On Music. On Story. On Air. Featuring Hrishikesh Hirway (Song Exploder), Justin Richmond (Broken Record) and Arshia Haq (Discostan, Lost Notes) in conversation. Hosted by KCRW Music Director and DJ, Anne Litt.
Act 3: The Art of the Crossfade, a live mixing of mediums performed by Josh Kun with musicians San Cha and César Castro. This experimental conversation and performance brings to life what happens when we mix without erasing and make new ideas from points of unexpected connection.
