Please join us for an Olsen Family Reunion at the Charles and Hattie Olsen Farm on Saturday, July 15, 2017. The event will start at 10:00am. Lunch will be catered by the local farm-to-table restaurant, Nine Bean Rows. The Olsen farm is nestled in the Great Sleeping Bear Dunes area of Michigan which has been named the most beautiful place in America.
Please bring copies of pictures, letters, or historic items. Pictures, letters and stories from period of 1870 to 1920 are especially appreciated. There will be displays showing the family’s origins in Norway, copies of written family history, and stories told by family members. Activities for kids and adults are also being planned to make it a great day.
We hope to see many descendants of Ole Olsen, his brothers Nels Olsen and John Olsen Halsey, as well as their half-sisters; Lisabeth S. Johnson and Mari Olsdatter Nilsen. We have also invited Park service staff, volunteers, docents and interns that give tours, restore structures in Port Oneida, and donate their time to preserving the history of the area.
We are in discussion with the Park service to allow family members to participate in a preservation effort of the Ole Olsen house.
Register now to attend the 2017 Olsen Family Reunion or call 704-490-9696.
Attendees will be asked to make a $20 donation which includes lunch and activities at the Charles and Hattie Olsen farm. All proceeds will be donated to restoration efforts for the historic Ole Olsen house. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a popular tourist attraction, so please make reservations early.
