Event description
Welina mai! Welcome! Let’s learn Hawaiian together! A seven-session class series with Kamakakēhau Fernandez.

About this Event

Renowned singer Kamakakēhau Fernandez will share his language skills with our Highway Inn ‘ohana in a seven-week beginner-level class series. A fluent speaker of ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i, Kumu K is a graduate of Ke Kula Kaiapuni immersion school, a Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner and the voice of Tamatoa the Crab in Disney’s Hawaiian language version of the animated film MOANA.

Classes will be held every other Sunday, beginning October 6 (dates: 10/6, 10/20, 11/3, 11/17, 12/1, 12/15, 12/29), 5:00pm to 6:30pm at Highway Inn Kaka‘ako. (Validated 1.5 hour parking provided.)

This introductory-level series will be conducted in a conversational manner, emphasizing information and practice. Students may bring notebooks and/or recording devices for personal use. This class is intended for those who have little or no experience with ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i or who have a small degree of proficiency, but are looking to brush up on skills and spend more time conversing.

Students are expected to commit to the full class series; no refunds will be issued for no-show students.
