Mental Health Technology Transfer Center - Northeast and Carribean

This 2 part series will introduce the audience to:

  • Issues Faced by Older Adults with SMI: Basic overview of the population, population growth, aging issues, health challenges, strengths and psychiatric symptoms.

  • Interventions: Evidence-based and best practice recommendations and consideration

People with SMI are living longer, despite risks for significant physical health conditions and other challenges. People with SMI may also experience accelerated aging and experience issues with mobility, cognitive processing, and health conditions at an earlier age. This interactive two-part series will provide a basic introduction to this emerging population, discuss the intersection of the issues including; strengths, challenges and best practice interventions to support older persons.

Who should attend: This training is appropriate for behavioral health direct service providers and supervisors. Positions such as, case managers, residential counselors, mental health counselors/clinicians, peer providers, ICMS/(P)ACT team members, supported employment and supported education coaches, vocational rehabilitation specialists, and team leaders.
