Elgin Shakespeare Project wraps up its multi-year grant project focusing on original practices with a hybrid version of Romeo/Juliet featuring original pronunciation, some scrolls, and plenty unrehearsed.
Shows will take place Vero Voce Theatre and Elgin Public House.
Performances are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 19, 20, and 21 at 7 pm at Vero Voce, 3755 E Main St. #158 St. Charles. And Monday, August 22 at 7 pm at Elgin Public House, 219 E Chicago St. Elgin.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. Seating is limited. Masks are optional.
Admission is free but reservations are recommended. Donations are welcome.
The cast features Amber Cartwright, Jennifer Reeves-Wilson, Heidi Swarthout, Allison Sword, Sean Hargadon, Jake Busse, Ben Slabik, and Stetson Cross.
This production is part of Janus Theatre's Elgin Shakespeare Project, exploring original practices of Shakespeare’s plays and his contemporaries. The Palmer Foundation generously sponsors the project.
SAFETY GUIDELINES
Seating is limited for safety reasons. The presentation will run for approximately 70 minutes without a break. Actors are fully vaccinated and will be unmasked. Masks are optional for audience members. If you feel ill, please do not attend.
ABOUT OLD SCHOOL SHAKESPEARE
The story is presented with the actors illustrating different techniques. There is no director and limited to no rehearsal. This brings a spontaneous quality to each performance.
ABOUT ELGIN SHAKESPEARE PROJECT
The Elgin Shakespeare Project enters its final year of a three-year project after suspended work in 2020. The project further examines Shakespeare’s plays and his contemporaries by using techniques developed during his time.
