About this event
Join us for yet another Virtual tour of a Redlands Beauty! Meet the owners of 521 Alvarado Street and hear of their journey in this superb home...
Just a nibble about the home...Karl Wells, the president of the Union Bank and Southwestern Telephone Co., received the permit to build at 521 Alvarado in 1909. Wells represented the Home Investment Company that built homes in Redlands as business banking investments.
Wells choose Robert Ogden, builder and architect , to construct this one story, five room home for $2,500. Ogden specialized in Arts and Crafts architecture and built six homes on Alvarado in 1909. The Alvarado Terrace #1 subdivision was a dead end street with an orange grove in the future 400-500 block until the 1950's.
The Craftsman Style usually presented a low pitched roof with plenty of wood features to distinguish the style. Concrete foundations with cobblestone support columns present a country home. By : Tom Atchley
