The Oktoberfest Trail Runs (10-mile, 8K and 2K kids race) are held on Wenatchee National Forest lands just a few miles from Leavenworth and its Bavarian Village. The trail runs start and finish adjacent to the historic Leavenworth Ski Hill Lodge (built in 1936 by the CCC) and incorporate single-track trails and dirt roads. The terrain is rolling and challenging and features views of the Cascade Mountains and the Icicle Creek area.
The 10-mile run features a new course this year. The route will take trail runners from the start at Leavenworth Ski Hill onto the 4 the Boyz Memorial Trail and then the Rosie Boa Trail to the Freund Canyon Trail. Runners will run down Freund Canyon to 4 the Boyz and then back to the the Ski Hill.
The courses for the 8K and the Kids Race remain the same.
This event is held during the third and final weekend of Leavenworth's Oktoberfest celebration.
This event also serves as a fundraiser for the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, which operates the Ski Hill.
The Oktoberfest event also is part of the three-event Wenatchee Valley Trail Run Series put on by RunWenatchee. Other races in the series include the Horse Lake Trail Runs (May 1, 2016) in the Wenatchee Foothills; and the Red Devil Challenge Trail Runs (May 22, 2016) in the Wenatchee National Forest near Cashmere.
