Description

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is excited to announce free professional development workshops for the 2018-2019 school year. These workshops are being offered in different regions of the state and are designed to support educators with effective instructional strategies aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards. These workshops are perfect for educators looking to identify a new Professional Learning (PL) Focus or deepen expertise in an existing PL Focus. Workshop OPTIONS: CHOOSE 1 WORKSHOP TO ATTEND ALL DAY

Health and Physical Education (PE)

8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Lunch Break 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

  • In the morning attendees (PreK-12) will learn the importance of functional fitness, how it increases MVA, and how to implement a functional fitness unit into PE. In the afternoon, attendees (PreK-5th) will learn how to implement Physical Activity Breaks into the elementary classroom and how to promote effective recess at their school.
    -There is a separate registration ticket for the Secondary Health and PE attendees for the morning session.

PreK-12 Fine Arts - Drama/Theatre Education

8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Lunch Break 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

  • This workshop will have a drama/theatre education focus. The morning session will consist of information from the SDE and grant possibilities from the Oklahoma Arts Council. In the afternoon, Nick Bartell (Lyric Theatre), Lauren Peck (Poteau drama educator), and Judith Palladino (Oklahoma City University) will present sessions on drama pedagogy and curriculum.

Gifted and Talented Education

8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Lunch Break 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

Session Description:

  • In the morning attendees will hear from a panel of veteran GT coordinators to better understand GT regulations and interact with the GT Coordinators Handbook to make it a useful tool for their position and in the afternoon attendees will attend multiple breakout sessions exploring how ways to effectively utilize GT funds, revise district plans, and much more.
