Understanding the Impacts and Implications of Contact Tracing
Join the Ohio Information Technology Association (OITA) and our special guests for an informative online video forum on contact tracing, a tool the CDC calls “a key strategy” in the battle against COVID-19. We’ll talk to industry experts and state officials about Ohio’s plans to track down the virus and stamp out a public health crisis.
Our speakers:
- Christina Frass, Co-Lead Ohio Dept. of Health’s Contact Tracing Initiative
- Rory Job, Chief Technologist, Perspecta Risk Decision Group
- State Senator Dave Burke (R-Marysville), Pharmacist & Senate Health Committee Chair
The Centers for Disease Control lists contact tracing as “a key strategy” and “part of a multi-pronged approach” to fighting the spread of COVID-19. The CDC adds, “Immediate action is needed. Communities must scale up and train a large contact tracer workforce and work collaboratively across public and private agencies to stop the transmission of COVID-19.” The urgency of this effort has generated significant discussion about next steps. Among the key questions:
- What is contact tracing, and how does it work?
- How will businesses, schools, universities, local governments, non-profits and citizens be impacted?
- What regulatory issues stand between the need and the implementation of a local or statewide program?
- What privacy concerns need to be addressed?
- Will the legislature want input on the program, and, if so, what would it be?
- What kind of training and supervision needs to occur, and what resources are required to ramp up that kind of effort?
- What enforcement issues could arise from notification of potential infections?
- Are there settings or physical locations that should be priorities (i.e. health care and long-term care facilities, correctional facilities, schools, etc.)?
