2 Day passes are sold out. Individual film tickets can be purchased as available. There will be a stand by line on the day of each screning.

Join the OI for a weekend of screenings and special events celebrating UChicago's most famous fictional student, Indiana Jones, the character thought to be inspired by our own archaeologists James Henry Breasted and Robert Braidwood. In addition to screenings, this two-day event includes faculty and archaeologist talks and introductions, a conversation on pop culture and archaeology, an Indy films costume contest, and a reception.

The schedule below will be updated as events are added:

Friday, October 11:

6:30 PM: Pre-screening discussion with Stanford Carpenter, comic book and pop culture historian, and Indiana Jones trivia with prizes sponsored by First Aid Comics!

7 PM: Screening: Raiders of the Lost Ark, 35mm! Location: Doc Films, Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E. 59th St. Chicago, IL 60637

Saturday, October 12

2 PM: Jr. Archaeologists dig in LaSalle Bank room OI. Come, unleash your inner Indiana Jones with this simulated dig for ages 5-12. Limited to 20 individuals, to secure your spot email oi-membership@uchicago.edu.

3PM: Screening: Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. Location: Breasted Hall, OI, 1155 E. 58th St. Chicago, IL 60637

5:20: Discussion: Raiders and Tanis. Brian Muhs, associate professor at the OI, discusses the depiction of the ruins of Tanis in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Location: Breasted Hall, OI, 1155 E. 58th St. Chicago, IL 60637

6 – 7:00: Gallery tours, scavenger hunts, and a pizza reception! Location, OI lobby and galleries.

6:30: Discussion: From the Ark to the Grail: An Exploration of the Depiction of the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail in Popular Culture. Tasha Vorderstrasse, OI research associate, examines how the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail have long captivated our collective imagination. 7:00: Discussion: Hatay and the Last Crusade. James Osborne, assistant professor of Anatolian Archaeology at the OI, introduces The Last Crusade with a discussion about the short-lived country of Hatay and the film’s depiction of the area, as well as the movie’s impact and inspiration on his career in archaeology. 7:30: Screening: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, 30th anniversary screening. Location: Breasted Hall, OI, 1155 E. 58th St. Chicago, IL 60637

PLEASE NOTE: Friday events will take place in Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E. 59th St. Saturday events will take place at the OI, 1155 E. 58th St.

OI Members and UChicago students can register for free. Nonmembers: screening of Raiders at DOC films will require a full priced ticket ($7 nonmembers) or a two-day pass. Suggested donation ticketing for Saturday is required for pre-registration. Suggested donation and pay what you like tickets available at the door on Saturday will be subject to availability . Pre-registration can be purchased or reserved for the entire weekend, a double feature on Saturday only, or each film individually. OI member and UChicago Student registration will require member cards, current status, or student IDs for entry. Visa and Mastercard are accepted for non member pre-registration. Your ticket will allow you access to each panel and event offered on the date.
