Event Details

It seems like every week we hear of someplace that just encountered workplace violence.  Unfortunately, some of us have experienced it ourselves.  When it happens, chaos, panic, and terror are realities.   It is a crisis in every definition.  Is anyone hurt?  Is anyone...dead?  Who did it?  Why?  The police, Sheriff, squads.  The media...and they want information...now!  Are you prepared?

Moderator Philip D. Atkins, PhD, LIDC-CS, OCPSII, Executive Director for the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Union County

Managing a workforce is hard enough, but managing through a traumatic, violent, intense, or other catastrophic event – a workplace “crisis” – is even more difficult.  This panel will provide a real-life case study on crisis within an organization and how not only to manage, but to “lead” your workforce through it.

Avoid, Deny, Defend – Your Workplace Violence Action Plan

Presented by Officer Larry A. Nelson, Columbus Division of Police – Advanced Training Unit

Emergency Action Plans for Workplace Violence Prevention are a critical part of the overall strategy for an organization, large or small.  We will break down the outline of the blueprint by using a sports coaching analogy to show the simplicity in creating a policy, the training and execution, and finally, what to do after an event is completed.  We will include references to assist the organization in completing the task and offer guidance with a quick question and answer portion after the presentation.
