Description

OhioMHAS invites you to join us on March 20, 2019 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Columbus – Worthington for the Ohio Collective Impact Summit - Collective Impact: A Framework to Address the Social Determinant of Opioid Addiction.

The Ohio Collective Impact Summit - Collective Impact: A Framework to Address the Social Determinant of Opioid Addiction will bring together funders, backbone organizations, key partners and community members for cross-sector dialogue and peer learning focusing on preventing opioid use and abuse and reducing opioid-related deaths and how these principles and practices can be applied across complex social problems.

Interventions to address the opioid epidemic in Ohio and beyond often focus on strategies that involve supply reduction, alternative pain management, medication-assisted treatment, provision of overdose-reversing drugs, prevention education, and peer recovery support. However, those closest to the opioid epidemic – individuals working on the frontlines to address it and individuals with lived experience – recognize the impact of social determinants of health on opioid addiction. Prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts are necessary components of solutions for the opioid crisis, but they alone are not sufficient. In order to fully address the opioid epidemic, communities must work across sectors to address social determinants of health like community trauma, adverse childhood experiences, health literacy, economic stability, and community connectedness that either contribute to, exacerbate, or result from opioid use disorder. The Collective Impact Summit will provide participants with strategies and ideas to support their current efforts for combating the opioid crisis with a multi-sector effort focused on the social determinant of health that is most prominent in their home communities. While the examples of the day will be focused on opiate use disorder, the strategies and frameworks that will be shared apply broadly to other health and behavioral health topics such as: suicide prevention, infant mortality, other substance use disorders, etc.

We will apply for prevention Continuing Education credits.
