Event description
The 2021 DC Funk Parade Festival theme: "Black Broadway" will be made of virtual & in-person programs!

About this Event

Our annual festival celebrating the U. St. Corridor will also focus on cultural reflection & preservation on the state of the District of Columbia via Funk University (FunkU). The 2021 celebration of Washington DC’s iconic "Black Broadway" neighborhood will bring forth historic touchpoints & lessons to unite the community, music and arts scene and the U Street neighborhood under the spirit of funk that brings us all together!

Funk Parade's 2021 goal is to educate as much as it entertains to underscore the contributions of the residents, icons and artists of the past so that they are never forgotten, while fundraising $5,000 for regional music students who deserve greater opportunities to thrive.

HOW TO SUPPORT FUNK PARADE UNTIL OUR FESTIVAL RETURNS

  1. Buy our Beer! - The music and culture from Washington DC’s historic “Black Broadway” (U. Street Corridor) has uplifted and inspired the lives of millions over the course of history. However, racial inequality continues to limit educational opportunities for future generations. In solidarity with the vibrant DC music community, Aslin Beer Co. is partnering with The MusicianShip’s Funk Parade Festival to support music education programs for youth in The Washington DC region. A portion of the proceeds from each “Black Broadway” purchase go directly towards providing free music education programs for youth in The Washington DC region. Available for purchase at Aslin Beer Co. in Alexandria, VA starting May 1st!
  2. Buy a Ticket! - Supporting this year's festival is a win for the local music and arts community all around! Each purchase ensures we can hire more artists, teach more students & deliver even more entertainment to you each year!
  3. Donate! - Funk Parade needs you on the mission with us to raise $5,000 in order to deliver even more free music education programs to regional music students in the name of Black Broadway! Any amount that you can spare will help us 'Change Lives with Music'!
