Event description

Description

On Reflective Planning Days, regional teams will engage in intense reflection on instructional practice by intentionally reviewing student work. As regional teams, we will engage in collaborative planning for implementing NGSS through Ambitious Science Teaching practices for upcoming lessons. This is also an opportunity for regional teams to inquire into the effectiveness of phenomena, curricular tools, and resources for student learning.

Please Bring

  • Minimum Requirement
    • Student work from formative assessments as data to inform future instructional decisions.
    • 1 class set of student work samples from your most recent unit of instruction that was based on the Ambitious Science Teaching framework. Of the samples, please identify students’ work as low, middle or high, based on the level of explanations, and to include samples from each category.
      • Note: Student work samples should be a task where students were asked to write and/or draw some piece of an explanation related to the unit’s phenomena.
  • Highly Recommended (in addition to minimum requirement)
    • 5-10 min video clip of how you worked with students that corresponds to the work samples that you bring. (Sometimes it helps to visualize your classroom when diving into student work!)
      • Upload the video clip to IRIS Connect
  • Public Representations of Student Thinking…summary table, class consensus model, class hypothesis list…etc. (Pictures or the real thing!)
    • Note: The more context you can provide around the unit/instructional task, the easier it will be for your colleagues to jump in and support you.
