Is your district holding off on instructional material decisions? This event may be for you...

Open Educational Resources (OER) are free to use, edit, and share. They have the potential to align curriculum more closely with the Common Core State Standards and engage teachers more fully in curricula, allowing them to adapt content to support quality instruction and student engagement.

Join OSPI’s OER, Teaching and Learning, and Educational Technology departments to discuss how to include OER as an important part in your district’s instructional material strategy. Your team will have an opportunity to learn more about OER, consider your district needs, and explore how OER resources can support instruction.  

Who should attend? 
District teams should consist of of 3-5 people. Be sure to have representaton from curriculum and instruction, technology, and administration on your team!

  • Teacher-Librarians
  • Teachers

What to expect?

  • Identify OER value proposition and highlight areas of concern: What benefits would OER have to your district, what challenges would your district face in implementing OER?
  • Look at three common OER distribution formats and discuss their implications for classroom use, distribution, and professional development.
  • Take away review instruments for determining quality and Common Core alignment.
  • Discover what you need to know about copyright, fair use, and open licenses.
  • Explore district policies and OER—how to address the adoption of rapidly changing content.
  • Examine case studies from districts on the front lines of OER implementation.
  • Understand the technology implications of adopting OER and discuss technical considerations for wide scale OER distribution.

Northwest ESD 189 and OSPI

Northwest Educational Service District 189 provides leadership and cooperative services to our educational communities in support of their efforts to increase the number of students meeting state and local standards.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction is the primary agency charged with K-12 public education in Washington state. Our mission is to provide funding, resources, tools, data and technical assistance that enable educators to ensure students succeed in our public schools, are prepared to access post-secondary training and education, and are equipped to thrive in their careers and lives.
