October Tech Social - Gaming
Event Information
Description
Tech Social is back! Join us for the Gaming Tech Social. Seppo Helava (designer) and Ei-Nyung Choi (engineer) from Wonderspark will speak about their current mobile game design projects. We will have a server available for Minecraft players to use. During the gaming time, there will be a talk on Minecraft Basics for parents in the Havens Library. All of this, a pizza dinner, milk, and cookies for only $5! As usual, you are welcome to bring any games and maker activities - you do not have to stick with the theme.
If you are interested in participating in Minecraft, here are some key tips:
-
We urge you to bring your own laptop computer set up and ready to go.
-
If you do not have a Minecraft account, you will need to get a Minecraft account here and download the app to your computer, or prepare to play for an hour at the event with a demo account.
-
We will have wifi available, but limited power outlets, so try to charge up ahead of time.
-
Note: iPad users will not be able to share this server, but can still play solo!
For parents, the topics covered will include:
-
How to support your child’s Minecraft play
-
Minecraft servers: are they safe for kids?
-
Minecraft Mods 101.
Please contact the organizers with questions. Registration in advance is strongly advised to allow for us to order enough food!

Dinner will be pizza from Lanesplitter, with water and milk also provided. If you want to bring your own water bottle, so much the better. There will be a cookie break during the self-organizing pod session.

We understand that plans change, particularly with families! However, the majority of our costs are sunk immediately (facility and equipment rental), so while we are happy to refund your fee up to 24 hrs in advance of the event, please consider making it a donation instead.
