In Mahayana Buddhism, the Bodhisattva is an archetypal great being who tirelessly and joyfully works to liberate all beings from suffering. For the first time, EBMC will offer two class series and a final daylong retreat exploring what it means to creatively embody the Bodhisattva teachings. You may register here for the first class series, which takes place in October 2017. Meditation (instruction provided for beginners), Dharma talks, and interactive exercises.

In order to provide the most access to this new Buddhist curriculum at EBMC, here's how it will work:

  • The 4-class series in Oct 2017, Path of Bodhisattva 1 is open to all.
  • The 3-class series in Nov 2017, Path of Bodhisattva 2, is also open to all.
  • There is a final daylong retreat on December 3 (Sunday), which is open to all. People who have completed as many classes as possible in both the October and the November class series (7 classes total) and who request to receive the Bodhisattva Vows and Precepts may do so at the daylong, with permission from the guiding teacher. Everyone, whether or not they took any of the previous Bodhisattva classes, is warmly invited to practice in community together on Dec 3, to enjoy a delicious potluck lunch, and to joyfully witness the Bodhisattva Vows and Precepts ceremony. These are the same vows taken by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which are considered a powerful commitment to collective liberation.

Mushim (Patricia) Ikeda received Bodhisattva precepts and vows in Toronto, Canada in 1983. She is an EBMC core teacher, a widely-published writer, and a social justice activist. Mushim has practiced as both a monastic and a lay householder. For more information, go to www.mushimikeda.com
