Description

Uncertainties Associated with the Estimation of Unconventional Reserves

Abstract: The definition of reserves includes geological and engineering data, volume of recoverable hydrocarbon from known reservoirs, and commercial and operational considerations. From the petrophysics perspective some key words are: net height or pay, drainage area, porosity, hydrocarbon saturation, and recovery factor in conventional plays. Each one of these parameters is measured, calculated or estimated with a degree of uncertainty. It is essential for the reserves evaluator to understand the origin and impact of these uncertainties

Our Distinguished Speaker: Dr. LUIS F QUINTERO is the President of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts, SPWLA; SPWLA’s representative in the Oil and Gas Reserves Committee (OGRC); and Halliburton’s Chief Advisor for Production Management. He obtained a B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar (Venezuela), and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana State University.

Luis started his career in 1984 as a wireline engineer in India (offshore and onshore). He later advanced to positions in petrophysics, reservoir engineering, business development, financial analysis, project management and production management. He has written Competent Person’s Reports (CPR) for oil and gas fields in USA, South and Central America, and South Africa. In his 33 year career covering over 40 countries Dr. Quintero has had the privilege of offering his thoughts about the Oil and Gas industry in keynote speeches in India, Colombia, Thailand, England, Houston and Japan. He has more than 25 technical publications and a dozen patents; and has written for the World Energy Monthly Review and offered TV interviews in the UK, Azerbaijan and Colombia.
