Event description

Description

Libraries are continuously evolving to meet changing community needs. Ongoing demands and opportunities—driven by technology advancements, data overload, heightened institutional complexities, and user preferences—make keeping pace difficult, and getting and staying ahead even more so. But what if you changed your frame of reference, and focused instead on leading change?

Join fellow OCLC member leaders to discuss how libraries can move beyond incremental progress and instead change the game, transforming not only your libraries, but your communities. Together we will share ideas and experiences that dramatically expand the boundaries of librarianship.

Who should attend

This conference was created especially for current and emerging library leaders across all library types—academic and research, public, special and others. Programming and discussions are centered around library leadership’s opportunity to change the game, both today and into the future. Librarians and staff with these titles and areas of focus will benefit from this meeting:

  • Library director
  • Dean of libraries
  • University/college librarian
  • City librarian
  • Head/director of access services
  • Head/director of reference services
  • Head/director of technology
  • Associate directors of libraries or library divisions

We welcome all staff members from OCLC member libraries who would like to join this strategic discussion around changing the game.

In addition to the two-day conference, we will offer a preconference program on Wednesday, October 24 from 1:00–5:00 pm (check-in begins at 12:30 pm).

Conference registration includes admittance to the preconference. A separate ticket is needed for attendees interested in attending the preconference program only.

Preconference: Leading the 21st-century Research Library
(Coordinated by the OCLC Research Library Partnership)

Research libraries are rethinking current collection practices and infrastructures, shifting from relatively autonomous local library collections to those built on networks of collaboration, often outside of the traditional library community. Network intelligence is becoming essential for the facilitation of discoverability, interoperability, and operation at scale.

The OCLC Research Library Partnership invites institutional leaders from national and university libraries to join us for a preconference where together we will discuss today’s institutional and library challenges and strategize for the future.
