Event description

Description

OCA Asian Pacific American Advocates (“OCA”) and the Asian Community Development Council (“ACDC”) are non-profit 501(c)(3) non-partisan organizations. OCA Las Vegas and ACDC created the annual 88 Fund event in support of the OCA Las Vegas’ mentorship program that was founded in 2010. Upon completion of the mentorship program, mentees leave with a clearer understanding of their potential profession, which enables them to better prepare for career path development and life-long mentors.

In addition to 88 Fund and the mentorship program, the ICON Award was developed to recognize the many AAPI trailblazers and pioneers in the Las Vegas Community. Join us as we celebrate the 2017 OCA Las Vegas APIA Icons of Las Vegas:

  • Steve Aoki (World-renowned EDM DJ)

  • Gwen Migita (Caesars Entertainment Vice President of Sustainability & Corporate Citizenship)

  • Judge Cheryl Moss (1st Asian American Female District Court Judge in Nevada)

  • Steve Pay (Principal Electrical Engineer)

The honorees will be joining an elite group of past honorees such as Larry Barnard, Michelle DiTondo, Dr. Zia Khan, Councilwoman Gerri Schroder, Catherine Siefert, and Tim Wong.

ACDC will also be celebrating their opening anniversary. Within the past year, ACDC has provided valuable services to the AAPI community such as voter education, health fairs, tax aide, and youth leadership programs. For more details, please visit their website acdcnv.org.

OCA Las Vegas Icons Award

This prestigous award is given to an individual who provided significant change/support towards the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) community. This award recognizes their community work and acknowledge their impact to the Las Vegas community.

OCA Las Vegas/ACDC Mentorship Program

The ACDC & OCA Las Vegas Mentorship Program strives to guide young college AAPI students to become better professionals and leaders through:

  • Workshops on resumes and other necessary soft skills
  • Mentors to guide a student in their chosen industry
  • Community Engagement through volunteering
  • Membership in OCA
  • Network opportunities to build a professional network

Through the five month program, students will graduate with a better understanding of their industry and develop soft skills necessary for their profession.
