OC Urban Ag Tour: Spring Edition

Please join Solutions for Urban Agriculture in collaboration with Urban Land Institute OC/IE on a day tour of some of the most innovative urban farm operations located in Orange County. This tour's purpose is to highlight current urban agricultural solutions that could be incorporated into communities in new and different ways, capable of providing fresh and local food, while providing jobs and addressing social issues.
INCLUDED: Morning coffee, snacks, transportation, bus discussions with Chairman A.G. Kawamura, gourmet box lunches and light reception at the end of the tour.
We will be visiting the following urban agriculture sites:
TANAKA FARMS: Since 1940 the Tanaka family has been dedicated to providing all families with quality products and educational experience. Glenn Tanaka will share the story of the transformation of his family farming operation from three generations ago to their successes today.
PARASOL GREENHOUSE: With a vision to create a thriving communal environment, Great Park Neighborhoods and The Ecology Center have collaborated to design a vibrant garden at Parasol Park that features a community greenhouse, organic garden, and outdoor kitchen where The Ecology Center team will be onsite to facilitate monthly workshops and weekly garden work days. Meg Hiesinger, Ph.D. will be there to share the vision.
URBAN PRODUCE: At Urban Produce's patented indoor growing facility, they are pushing the envelope of sustainability by redefining what it means to consume locally grown produce. Their goal is to bring nutrient-dense locally-grown produce to urban cities across the world. Be exposed to how industrial areas can be used to grow food offering opportunity and options for innovative redevelopment solutions.
THE RIVERBED FARM: In a unique partnership with the City of Anaheim and Renewable Farms – Riverbed Farm is an excellent example of an aquaponic farm and an entrepreneurial endeavor. Aaron Flora will share his creative urban agriculture solution.
INCREDIBLE EDIBLE FARM II: Second Harvest Food Bank or Orange County, SFUA and the City of Irvine partnered to build and manage this farm-to-food bank program that was recently relocated within the Orange County Great Park in Irvine. The new 4.5 acre site includes hydroponic towers and engages over 7,000 volunteers on an annual basis.
Lunch will be provided by Chef Dani Inman from All Things Fabulous Catering.
